Mikita Likhavid thrown into punishment cell again

Political prisoner Mikita Likhavid, 21, has been placed in a special punishment cell for the fourth time during 40 days.

This time, the administration of the Navapolatsk penal colony, accused the prisoner, sentenced for post-election protests, of not informing against his cell mates, Radio Racyaja reports.

According to activist’s mother Alena Likhavid, the guy has been kept in the isolation cell for 35 days. Lawyer Daria Lipkina visited the activist in the colony yesterday:

“He took a clear position and will stand firm on it. A check-up was carried out in the cell, during which some forbidden items were found. Likhavid was on duty on that day, but he did not perform his duties and did not inform the administration about the illegal things. According to Alyaksandr Pankrat, the chief of Quarantine prison squad, Likhavid is guilty in a failure to inform about cigarettes, that other prisoners had.”

The activist of the For Freedom movement refuses to give evidence and admit himself guilty, because prosecution of participants of the December 19 demonstration is unlawful, he thinks.

On March 29, 2011, Mikita Likhavid was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison by judge of the Partyzanski district court of Minsk Natallya Pykina.
