Poland may decrease level of diplomatic relations with Belarus

Law and Justice Party is to propose a draft law in the Polish Sejm in response to a possible sentence to Andrzej Poczobut.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the Polish biggest opposition party Law and Justice, defends journalist from Hrodna Andrzej Poczobut, a correspondent for Gazeta Wyborcza, who stands a closed trial in Hrodna over charges with insulting and defaming Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

The opposition party will propose a draft law as a response to a possible sentence to Poczobut, the party’s spokesman Adam Hofman said.

“We outline three very important aspects in this resolution. Firstly, Poczobut is tried because he as an activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus. Secondly, Belarus violates human rights. Thirdly, Poczobut is a journalist, but freedom of speech was tramped on and broken. We propose a draft resolution and one more step, we urge the government to declare that if Poczobut is sentenced, the level of diplomatic relations will be decreased,” Radio racyja cites the party’s spokesman.
