Activist of Sannikov’s team tried on falsified accusation

Yet another trial over an opposition member will be held on June 20.

Yauheny Kanstantinau, an activist of Andrei Sannikov’s team at the 2010 presidential elections, will stand trial in Navapolatsk.

As human rights activists report, Kanstantsinau was detained on June 17 in Navapolatsk and accused of violating article 17.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (disorderly conduct). The articles carries a punishment of a fine from 2 to 30 basic unites (70,000 – 1,050,000 rubles) or administrative arrest.

The activist’s flat was searched before he was detained. Kanstantsinau was taken to a local police department, where a report on administrative offence was drawn up. The activist spent the weekend in the temporary detention facility, BelaPAN writes.

We remind that three public activists, representatives of the organizing committee to create the Belarusian Christian Democracy party (BCD) Aleh Karavaika, the head of the local branch of the BCD organizing committee, as well as Illya Bahdanau and Andrei Dubrouski, were detained in the centre of Navapolatsk on June 19. They were going to take part in a public action timed to six months since the Belarusian presidential elections. They were guarded to a local police department and warned against organizing unauthorized street actions and calling to take part in them. The BCD activists were released on the same day.
