Accident at Belaruskali mine and refinery complex 2

Water flooding occurred at the third mine level at Belaruskali’s mine and refinery complex 2 in early hours of June 24.

As charter97.org has learnt, miners found a water reservoir of unknown volume. Water continues to flood at a speed of 70 cubic metres per hour. In case of failure to pump out water, works at the second mine can be stopped.

Uralkali saw a similar incident some years ago. The company has to close down the mine making about 27% of the company’s output.

We remind that Belaruskali has four mine and refinery complexes as well as auxiliary and service departments (transport, energy, repair, building firms and shops). The Krasnoslobodski mine was opened in May 2009. On December 14, 2006, construction of the sixth, Beryozovski, mine was started.
