No sugar in Brest, sales limited to 5kg per person in Babruisk

Some sellers say they cannot buy sugar at supply depots, while people buy out the rests expecting from 30 to 50% increase in sugar prices.

People bought even unpackaged sugar in 50kg bags, BelaPAN reports.

Sugar is now on sale only in Korona supermarket.

Sugar sales limited to 5kg per one person in Babruisk

As noted by Anatoly Kisyalou, the head of the trade and service department of the Babruisk city executive committee, sugar sales in Babruisk grew three times in the last month: 900 tonnes instead of usual 300 tonnes. In this regard, the Babruisk city authorities took a decision to limit sales of sugar to five kilogrammes per person, Telegraf news agency reports with a link to “Babruisk: regional portal” website.

The official says the situation will be stabilized only when the sugar boom is over. According to him, even the expected two wagons of sugar will not solve the problem. Anatoly Kisyalou assured sugar would not go up in the nearest time.

Granulated sugar practically disappeared from sale in the Mahilou region. The trade department of the Mahilou region executive committee says the situation is caused by consumer rush. The deputy head of the trade department, Alyaksandr Dzhafarau, says the demand for sugar increased 2- or 2.5-fold.
