Zingeris urges to investigate issuing of visa to Bodak

Emanualis Zingeris, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Lithuanian Seimas urges the Foreign Affairs Ministry to carry out an internal investigation on the fact of issuing a visa to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Ala Bodak immediately.

As stated by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, “it is necessary to find out as soon as possible how it could happen that the Lithuanian Embassy in Minsk had issued a visa to a recognizable person, who had been put on the list of persons banned from entering the European Union, and who is responsible for that.” On the other hand, according to E. Zingeris, watchfulness of the state border protection service should be noted in this case, too, as they corrected this unfortunate mistake.

The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee has also informed that he had already held consultations with some colleagues from the European Union and he would offer to include on the agenda of the nearest EU meetings at all levels of power, both parliamentary and executive one, an issue of legal cooperation with non-democratic countries. “The events of recent weeks which have shocked the Lithuanian society, demonstrate that the roof, doors and windows of the European Union are susceptible to external undemocratic draughts, and they should be insulated immediately,” E. Zingeris said.
