Brest activists of human rights watchdogs have held a rally in support of political prisoner, a presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov.

The rally was held near the Polish consulate in Brest. During the rally people who were standing in a queue, and also passers-by handed out “Vybar” newspaper, dedicated to Andrei Sannikov.

The short rally ended with no arrests.

“It was clear that people took the protest in good part, when they were given the newspaper. Many people standing in the queue to the consulate, started to read it at once. And some other people asked questions to the activists who were handing out newspapers,” Radio Svaboda was told by Yury Zhydovich.

Andrei Sannikov, a presidential candidate in Belarus, was sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment in a in medium security colony for a protest rally against rigged election results on December 19, 2010.
