Verdict to journalist Poczobut upheld

On September 20, the Hrodna region court dismissed the cassation appeal of local journalist Andrzej Poczobut against the decision of the Leninski district court.

We remind that on July 5 the court of the Leninski district of Hrodna found a correspondent for Polish Gazeta Wyborcza guilty in violating part 1 of article 367 (libel against the president). The journalist was accused of publishing a number of articles criticizing the acting authorities. Poczobut was given three years’ sentence suspended for two years. The trial was held behind closed doors.
