Belarusbank robber turns out to be Georgian national

A man suspected of attacking a Belarusbank office in Minsk was detained by police.
The information as received from Alyaksandr Lastouski, a spokesman for Minsk police, BelTA news agency reports.
“Police received description of the criminal as a result of initial investigation procedures and search operations. Detectives from the criminal investigation department of Tsentralny district police department, main police department of the Minsk city executive committee and Interior Ministry of Belarus, experts and investigators were searching whereabouts of the suspect,” Alyaksandr Lastouski said. Police established identity of the suspect, who turned out to be a citizen of Georgia, born in 1973, registered as a temporary resident of Minsk. “Well-coordinated actions by detectives allowed to establish whereabouts of the suspect and detain him. A part of the stolen money was seized. He was taken to a temporary detention facility in Minsk,” the spokesman added.
As charter97.org reported yesterday, an office of Belarusbank on Shpalernaya Street in Minsk was robbed at 2:00 p.m. on October 10. A man with a knife stole about 30 million Belarusian rubles.
Investigation Committee's department of Minsk's Tsentralny district initiated a criminal case over part 3 of article 207 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
