Lukashenka frames ex-Mossad chief

Meir Dagan's family worries about his safety after a press conference of the Belarusian ruler.

The former chief of Mossad is in the intensive care unit in an undisclosed hospital after undergoing a liver transplant surgery. The operation was successful, but some complications followed it,” israelinfo.ru reports.

Doctors said on Wednesday morning that Dagan was in the intensive care unit and his body temperature was rising. His condition improved to stable in the evening, the Times of Israel writes with a link to Meir Dagan's friends.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka mentioned about the operation on the former head of the Israeli intelligence in a press conference for the Russian media on October 16. Lukashenka boasted that both Germany and the USA had refused to perform a surgery, but Belarusian doctors agreed to do so.

“It is a high-profile surgery. I say: tell the general that we don't give guarantees, like any doctor, but we will do our best to perform it in compliance with state-of-the-art technologies. Take an  advisor if you want. They took their superstar, who performed lots of operations. He was watching the surgery and said at the end, guys, I'm not needed here,” the Belarusian president said.

In real case, the operation was performed by Dr. Daniel Azoulay of the Paris transplant centre. Senior Israeli doctors assisted the surgery, the Times of Israel reports adding that Dagan's family worries about his safety after Lukashenka's remark and proposes Israel to demand the increased security of the Belarusian hospital.

The regulations of Israeli hospitals forbid liver transplant operations for patients over 65 years old. Meir Dagan is 67, which was the reason why the surgery couldn't be performed in Israel, Prof. Yaakov Lavie of the transplant center at Tel Aviv’s Tel Hashomer Hospital says.

ITV channel 2 informs that Dagan was to undergo a surgery in India, but the Indian authorities refused to admit him due to his former position as Mossad chief.
