Siargei Kavalenka: The veins disappeared after the hunger strike

Former political prisoner told in Warsaw about the horrors of the confinement.

The press-conference in the Polish capital was organized by Belsat TV channel.

They medically treated him in the way that he tried to kill himself.

The former political prisoner said that during the forced cessation of the hunger strike he was kept tied to his bed for days. It is unknown what was there in the droppers he was treated with, which injections he was given, but according to Siargei Kavalenka, after these procedures blood would come out his mouth.

Because of endless humiliations and hostility of the colony’s staff the  prisoner tried to kill himself.

“When I was unfastened for the first time, I took an electric lamp from the ceiling and wrapped it in a sweater, so they wouldn’t hear how a was breaking it. I tried to cut the vein, but I lost so much weight that there were no veins on the arm – only tendons”.

After that incident he was transferred to Navinki, where the doctor advised him to stop the hunger strike as he would stay in the hospital for a long time. Kavalenka confesses: only the fear to be considered insane made him start eating himself, Narodnaya Volia reports.

Sergei Kavalenka expressed his gratitude to the media, thanks to which they knew about his fate outside the prison, and to all the people of good will. The political prisoner received hundreds of letters written in Belarusian from all over the world. Only the support and the thoughts about the family helped him to live through the months of imprisonment.
