Zyuganov: Why does EU have dialogue only with liberal opposition?

Why not with the dictatorship, indeed?

The EU sanctions against Belarus are illegal and absolutely opportunistic, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation told BelTA news agency.

“The EU sanctions on Belarus are illegal and absolutely opportunistic. This is a direct pressure on Alyaksandr Lukashenka, his friendship with Russia and the policy that doesn't depend on the West. It is clear: if the EU 'supports the people of Belarus' so much, why does it have a proper dialogue only with the liberal opposition ignoring the state bodies and other political forces?” the leader of Russia's communists leader stressed.

He also noted that EU's policy of sanctions was a preplanned course to exclude Belarus from the list of influential political players in the region. “The EU doesn't need an equal and politically independent partner. They need the regime similar to the Yushchenko regime that can be easily manipulated,” Gennady Zyuganov said.

“I think Belarus should behave like a strong independent state – to look for alternatives. The EU will give up when they understands their sanctions don't scare the leadership of the country, but there's a real chance to lose a trade partner. The EU has too many internal problems to risk in foreign policy too,” Gennady Zyuganov said.
