Political prisoner Vaskovich gets another warning

Yauheny Vaskovich, who spent seven days in a punishment cell in early October, received another warning from the disciplinary commission of the penal colony in Mahilou.

He wasn't however sent to a punishment cell, BelaPAN news agency reports.

“Vaskovich explained why he had refused to see his lawyer in the punishment cell. According to him, it was form of protest against throwing him into the punishment cell. The political prisoner refutes the rumours that he had waived his lawyer,” the statement says.

Vaskovich again receives letters from relatives after the release from the punishment cell.

On May 18, 2011, the activist, as well as Artyom Prakapenka and Pavel Syramolatau, was sentenced to seven years in prison over part 2 of article 339 (hooliganism) and part 3 of article 218 (deliberate destruction of or damage to property on an especially large scale) of the Criminal Code.
