Budget for poverty development

The prime-minister of Belarus called the main financial law of the country adopted by the “house of representatives” a “budget of development”.

The government is doing everything for growth of the gross domestic product for 5-5,5% this year, Mikhail Miasnikovich assured. Will the optimistic indicators improve the Belarusians’ life quality?

According to the head of the government, next year the GDP in Belarus will increase 8,5%, “Zavtra tvoei strany” reports.

An economist Leanid Zlotnikau is skeptical about the government’s plans.

- I can’t understand where growth of GDP will come from this year. It is unreal to build 10 modern and efficient enterprises in every region and upgrade more than half of the existing factories. There no own resources for that. Only if to force the people to buy obligations and this way find money for investments, as it was done in the time of Stalin.

But it is highly doubtful that they will succeed in forcing the people into such “charity”. And it is also unreal, according to the economist, to attract 4-5 billion United States dollars of investments from abroad.

- Even if the authorities find money for the enterprises’ upgrade, we don’t have the technologies, the equipment, the necessary number of specialists for carrying it out, - the expert believes.

Nominally the government can reach the mentioned indicators of the gross domestic product if, as it was in the previous years, they will print huge amounts of unsecured money in the country.

- But his would not lead to the improvement of Belarusians’ life quality, - the former head of the National Bank Stanislau Bagdankevich is sure. – This year the labor productivity increased roughly 3% in Belarus, whereas the incomes of the people grew 10% according to the official statistics. It is possible on paper. But it will still be impossible to increase the real level of living, - the professor highlights.
