Hrodna residents invited to support Autukhovich and Dashkevich

3

An action to support political prisoners in city prison was carried out in Hrodna.

Activists of Hrodna-based organisation Free Belarus distributed leaflets with information about Zmitser Dashkeivch and Mikalai Autukhovich, ffight.org reports.

Leaflets appeared in crowded places in Hrodna, at bus stops and on advertising columns.

“Two out of fourteen political prisoners – Mikalai Autukhovich and Zmitser Dashkeivch – serve their sentences in Hrodna prison No. 1. They need your support, your letters and telegrams,” the leaflets say.

Businessman from Vaukavysk Mikalai Autukhovich was sentenced to 5 years and 2 months in prison for illegal possession of weapons. He didn't admit his guilt at the trial and said he was persecuted for his anti-corruption activity.

Zmitser Dashkevich was sentenced to two years of imprisonment on accusation of hooliganism, he allegedly committed a day before the 2010 presidential elections. His term was to expire on December 18, 2012, but he was tried in August again. He received an additional year of imprisonment. Dashkevich was transferred to a maximum security prison. He is now kept in solitary confinement.
