Granit company workers getting prepared for strike

Members of the independent trade union at Granit company are not going to tolerate the reprisal against organization leader Aleh Stakhayevich.

They demand to resinstate Aleh Stakhayevich at work and promise to organize a warning strike if it is not fulfilled, bkdp.org writes.

On February 20, workers handed over a letter with demands to Granit company acting director Eduard Haurylkovich:

immediately eliminate discrimination on the ground of belonging to different trade unions;

immediately reinstate illegally fired Stakhayevich and Litvinenka;

immediately give a premises (statutory address) to the primary organization of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union at Granit company, which is being created in full compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, legal acts, independent trade union's charter and international norms.

Workers say the “unlawful actions by executives (E. Haurylkovich, M. Seraokaya, V. Haurylkovich, A. Kislyuk, I. Dubanosau, M. Chopchyts, V. Kurylovich, S. Mikhailau, V. Fitsenka, A. Voitkus and H. Bloshkin) discredit honour of Granit company inside and beyond the country that may cause imposing sanctions against our company (restrictions to sell our products on foreign markets) and impact the socio-economic state of the whole labour collective of Granit company.”

The letter emphasizes “a warning strike is organized at Granit company providing for suspension of production and finished products shipment if our demands are not fulfilled. In this case, responsibility for the situation will rest with the above mentioned executives.”

The appeal was signed by 28 people. More workers would like to put their signatures, but trade union activists did not have time to meet with everyone.

We remind that Aleh Stakhayevich was fired with gross violations of the legislation on February 16, 2012.
