Bildt: Belarus's economy on verge of collapse

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Carl Bildt, thinks Lukashenka is burning his bridges.

Bildt said it in Brussels on Tuesday, Radio Svaboda reports.

“Lukashenka has tried to manipulate us in different ways and to influence and threaten us in different ways. Now he tries to do something that he thinks will put pressure on us. We interpret this as weakness and desperation.

He is in a very tough situation. He is now burning bridges and this will have negative consequences in the future.

Belarus's economy is on the brink of collapse.

This economy will not survive without money flows from outside. Lukashenka is trying to knock on the IMF doors in Washington to get money, but these doors are reluctant to open. He is trying to enter international financial markets, but it's not hard to understand no one is interested in giving money to help his decaying economy. He then runs to Moscow to get money there, and receives some sweeteners from time to time,. But not as much as he needs. This won't work,” Bildt said.
