Amnesty International called to recognize Kavalenka prisoner of conscience

Member of the European Parliament Marek Migalski appealed to Amnesty International asking to recognize a Belarusian political prisoner a prisoner of conscience.

Under the rules of the influential international organization, this status is given to people who suffer for their political or religious views.

The MEP underlines in his letter to Amnesty International Syarhei Kavalenka is persecuted for his political views, adherence to democratic values and persistent struggle for a free Belarus, the website of the politician reports.

Marek Migalski, who took over godparenthood for Syarhei Kavalenka, notes the opposition activist has not been recognized prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International and offered to speed up the procedure.
