Tree from Country of Fools appeared in Brest (Photo)

Banknotes with value from Br 20,000 to 100,000 and mock lottery tickets are found on the tree instead of leaves.

A group of young people “planted” a symbolic dry tree in the central Soviet Street in Brest. On its branches Belarusian money and symbolic “lottery tickets” with the face of Pinocchio were found there instead of leaves, zapraudu.info reports. Besides, in order to evoke associations with the Fools’ Country, a poster was attached to the tree. A wooden personage was depicted there, and words which read: “Tree of economic wonder”.

The rally has a satiric nature, and so it could not be ignored by passers-by. Especially young people, who eagerly posed and made pictures in front of the tree.

“Everyone of us probably remembers a fairy-tale about the Adventures of Pinocchio, and how he buried his golden coins under a tree in the city of Catchfools. The Belarusian economy lives exactly according to this principle now. Citizens are burying their taxes hoping that somehow by some miracle something will grow. However, this money is used just on supporting unnecessary ideology departments, growing law-enforcement structures, supporting of loss-making enterprises, but does not affect well-being of Belarusians in any way. By this action in a grotesque form we showed the real situation in the most “socially oriented state for people,” said an activist of Tell the Truth campaign Alyaksei Koutun.
