Aeroflot does not plan to buy Belavia

"Aeroflot - Russian Airlines" is not considering the purchase of the Belarusian national carrier "Belavia".

Aeroflot General Director Vitaly Saveliev said on May 15 that the Russian airline was not considering the acquisition of the Belarusian national airline Belavia. "This issue is not on Aeroflot agenda, because there are no formal appeals. We have no results with regard to Belavia and we discuss nothing," he said.

According to the experts of the analytical department of the Russian agency Airport, the recent conflict between the Russian and Belarusian carriers showed an interest of Aeroflot in Belavia as the main contender for the purchase of the Belarusian airline.

However, Belavia hasn’t confirmed the information appeared in the media that the airline may be sold to the Russian Aeroflot.

Later, the Ministry of Transport of Belarus denied the information on the possible privatization of Belavia and its sale to the Russians.
