The conflict in Uruchcha city district, an area of the planned infill development, goes on.

The epicentre of the conflict between local residents and the city authorities moved to Shugaev Street.  Works on cutting down a small park near the museum of stones continued this morning, Onliner.by reports. Besides workers of Zelenstroi, an urban landscaping firm, athletically built men from the special task forces with saws and axes were noticed. They did not  hide the truth: “We want to live here and we'll do our best to achieve it.”

The works to cut down a small park on the place of the construction of two blocks of flats for special task forces began in early April. Local dwellers applied to the Presidential Administration asking to stop the “barbarity” and attached the documents saying the construction on the corner of Shugaev and Russiyanov Streets is illegal. Local residents planted young trees at the recent subbotnik (voluntary work day) in the park. The trees were dug out today.

The “operation” was carried out under the shelter of two police cars. Zelenstroi workers were standing aside smoking. Men from special task forces did not hide they wanted to move to new flats as soon as possible.

“Why are you turning Uruchcha into a ghetto? Why are you coming to the already developed district?” a pensioner asked as she tried to save at least one tree.

Local dwellers were unable to resist the special task forces. Military men tried to defend themselves:

“Do you want to save your park? Collect money and buy the land plot! Buildings will be constructed here, that's that.”

“Why did you come here? Go sleeping! You'd better defend the guys who are being sent to war,” an officer of the special task forces said.

Some dozens of local residents remained in the park risking to be late for work. Our website will continue to monitor development of the conflict.
