Uruchcha district dwellers: “Riot policemen knocked down women and old people on their path”

Dwellers of the city district Uruchcha-2 in Minsk held a meeting last week on Russiyanov Street, where two blocks of flats for law enforcement officers are planned to be constructed.

A reason for the meeting was cutting down a small park near the museum of stones, as onliner.by already reported. People decided to inform the country's leader about the “barbarity” and wrote an open letter to Lukashenka.

“Early in morning of May 2, 2011, when many dwellers of Uruchcha-2 district were sleeping or going to work, a bus with riot police officers with spades and axes in their hands appeared on the corner of Russiyanov and Shugayev streets,” the letters says (by the way, the district administration claim there were no riot police - author). “They ran to the place knocking down women and old people on their path that gathered to protect their park after news about possible cutting down trees.  Two weeks earlier, two  beautiful old birches were cut down on the site.”

People wonder why representatives of the law enforcement agencies were involved in cutting trees and if this work is a part of police duties?

“You talk about a necessity to build satellite towns, but head of the Minsk city executive committee Ladutska does the opposite. Minsk will have no free space with his obsession with infill construction. Look how many people oppose the policy of infill construction. Does the capital have no waste lands or abandoned sites? They like the green zone today, but they may like someone's flat or house tomorrow. Such executives provokes people's hatred.”

Dwellers of Uruchcha district ask Lukashenka to “influence the cancellation of illegal decisions on construction of two blocks of flats in the green zone”.

“We insist on an open investigation of the above mentioned facts of disregard of public interests by officials, barbaric destruction of the green zone, using brutal force against civilians by riot police.  We demand that the persons responsible for taking a decision on using riot police to destroy the green zone should be dismissed and punished. We impeach credibility of the Chairman of the Minsk city executive committee Ladutska, head of the Administration of the Pershamaiski district of Minsk Kudrevich as the officials disregarding lawful public interests, starting a conflict and discrediting the state authorities by their conduct and management style, as well as of member of the “house of representatives”  of the “national assembly” Misurahin and member of the local council Yakunin.”
