Council of Intelligentsia: Boycott - the only reasonable option

The members of the Council said this at the meeting with the democratic activist in Polatsk.

According to the information provided by the web-site of the human rights center "Vyasna", Chairman of the Council Uladzimir Kolas, poets Henadz Buraukin and Heorhi Likhtarovich, journalist Anatol Hulyaueu, teacher and translator Lyavon Barshcheuski and artist Ales Marachkin visited Polatsk.

The upcoming "election" to the "house of representatives" was the key issue at the meeting. According to the speakers, the authorities had turned elections into a farce long ago and deprived the people of the constitutional right to elect and to be elected. The members of the Council also strongly criticized the opposition parties which once again failed to unite and to act as a single front. The only reasonable variant, in the Minsk guests' opinion, is the boycott.

In the end of the meeting, Uladzimir Kolas offered the "Appeal to the Citizens of Belarus" to the present. The document suggests a variant of creating of the Belarusian Democratic Coalition.
