Uzbekistan leaves CSTO

Uzbekistan leaves CSTO

Uzbekistan has ceased its membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

This was reported by Russian news agencies with refference to Uzbek diplomatic sources. The reasons for such a decision are not reported.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance which was signed on 15 May 1992. On 7 October 2002, the Presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed a charter in Tashkent founding the CSTO.

On 23 June 2006, Uzbekistan became a full participant in the CSTO. Its membership was formally ratified by the Uzbek parliament on 28 March 2008.
