Union of Poles leader fined Br5 million

Renata Dzemyanchuk, a vice chairperson of the Union of Poles, was fined 5m Belarusian rubles for taking part in a protest picket against opening Russian-language groups in a Polish school.

According to Dzemyanchuk, judge Ksenia Stasyukevich took into consideration only the evidence given by policemen, who said the woman was taking active part in the picket, shouting and swinging her arms. Her evidence were not taken into account, Radio Svaboda reports.

Renata Dzemyanchuk is the ninth person tried for participating in an unauthorized picket held by the unrecognized Union of Poles. Activist Eduard Dzmukhouski was fined 4.7m rubles for the picket.

The picket against opening Russian groups in Polish secondary school No. 36 was held in Hrodna on June 1. About 20 people were detained.
