Statkevich's registration documents thrown in the garbage

A member of an election commission in Mahilou threw out documents for registration of an initiative group for political prisoner Statkevich.

Mikalai Statkevich's initiative group was not registered at a meeting of constituency election commissions No. 84 and 85.

The reason for denial was the prison term Mikalai Statkevich serves allegedly for organizing mass disorders. Nominating him as a candidate does not comply with both Constitution and Electoral Code of Belarus, Viasna human rights centre reports.

Members of constituency election commission No. 87 refused to accept documents to register political prisoner's initiative groups – they just threw them into a waste basket, though the law prescribes to accept the documents and register them for further consideration at a meeting.

Supporters of Mikalai Statkevich planned to submit documents for registration of his initiative groups to all 110 constituency election commissions.
