Police disperse young social democrats camp near Mahilou

Fifty people from a camp were forced to leave  atourist centre without giving any reasons.

As udf.by website learned from Yulia Mitskevich, an organizer of the event, people from around Belarus and a guest from France arrived in a tourist centre belonging to the Mahilou Metal Plant to spend a week there. But the camp was closed in 24 hours.

The administration of the tourist centre demanded to vacate premises because a group of sportsmen, who forgot to warn the centre director about their visit, was to arrive. Besides, in accordance with the accommodation rules, guests can be demanded to check out without giving any reasons, Yuklia Mitskevich says. She thinks reasons pointed out by the administration are far-fetched.

“It looks like a sham. How is it appeared that sportsmen didn't inform about their visit? The staff brought police to evict us. They began to check our passports and write down personal data. They talked to our French guest, asked why he had come, wrote down his personal information, checked in a database if he crossed the border,” the leader of the young social democrats says. “They threatened they would call riot police if we did not check out.”

Organizers of the event decided not to risk and create problems for participants, many of whom came with children. They plan to look for another place.

“We left a message in the book of complaints. We will also apply to the court with a claim to compensate for the moral damage for a spoiled vacation. We said the administration will face an international scandal,” Yulia Matskevich said. She said they paid for the 7-day stay at the tourist centre in advance, but the staff returned the money for the remaining days.

The young social democrats had a camp “Who are we, from where and in what direction we move”. Participants of the event studied the formation of the social democratic movement in Belarus, the current situation, a position of the youth and their proposals to society.
