Rally at Kamarouski market: Don’t vote – they’ll fool you

The first rally for boycott of the “election” was held in Minsk.

According to BelaPAN, the rally was officially organized by Maryna Khomich, an activist of foundation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy. Maryna registered an initiative group to promote herself as a deputy candidate, and held the rally at the entrance to the Kamarouski market to gather signatures.

Several people set up stands with slogans “There is no election!” and “Don’t vote – they’ll fool you!” in front of the Kamarouski market. Former presidential candidate, co-chairperson of the organizational committee on foundation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Vital Rymasheuski said that today it is crucial to explain to the people that an election is impossible in Belarus.

”We boycott the ”election” with only one reason, to make the powers organize free and fair election,” Rymasheuski said. He pointed out that during the rally, the activists gather signatures for release of the political prisoners. “Today people are very eager to leave a signature in support for the political prisoners. I collected signatures for one year ago – one out of hundred agreed to sign. Today people know about the problem and are more eager to sign. I believe that this is better than collecting signatures for a deputy candidate,” Rymasheuski said. He emphasized that if the rally ends successfully and nobody is detained, similar rallies will be held every day on the same spot. Several policemen in civilian were observing and filming the rally but none of them interfered.
