Vasily Parfyankou waits for transfer to penal colony in Valadarka jail

Political prisoner Vasily Parfyankou is in detention facility No. 1 in Valadarski Street in Minsk waiting for a transfer to a penal colony.

This is a usual practice, when prisoners wait to be sent to prisons for one or two weeks, Viasna human rights centre reports.

On August 9, police took Vasily Parfyankou from home so that he could start serving his term.

We remind  on July 24, the Minsk city court dismissed appeal by Parfyankou against 6-month custody for failure to fulfill the rules of preventive surveillance.

On May 29, jusge of Pershamaiski district of Minsk Syarhei Bandarenka found Vasily Parfyankou guilty of violating article 421 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The former political prisoner was put under preventive surveillance on January 5, 2012, for his political and public activity after Lukashenka had  granted him and other participants of the 2010 post-election protests a pardon in August 2011.
