Stanislau Shushkevich: Lukashenka is afraid to repeat the fate of Assad

That is why Belarusian president expresses his support of Russia’s policy towards Syria.

During the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Minsk Lukashenka assured him that Belarus fully supports the position of the Russian Foreign Ministry on international issues, in particular, on the Syrian issue.

"As for our position on international issues and, above all, hot spots, it completely coincides with the estimates and activities of the Russian Federation. Therefore, in this sense, you can be calm and confident. We support all of your aspirations, especially on Syria, to normalize the situation there", - said Aliaxandar Lukashenka.

The head of Independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich considers these statements of the Belarusian ruler absolutely regular and predictable.

"Lukashenka has no other way but to support Russian government in everything. Without this support, Lukashenka will meet the fate of Bashar al-Assad. It won’t be amiss to remind you that the Syrian dictator's power has been transferred from his father, Hafez Assad. Lukashenka also don’t mind to transfer power by right of succession", - said Stanislau Shushkevich in an interview to charter97.org.

According to the politician, support of Belarusian leader is not so important for Russia.

"Russia needs support from Lukashenka, like a bridge needs a hole. The only thing, where he could be useful - is the resale of Russian weapons. Russia still remains a civilized country and tries not to violate international sanctions, imposed on Syria", - said the politician.
