Lawyer fails to see Yauheny Vaskovich three times

Prison authorities  increased pressure on a political prisoner after he refused to apply for a pardon two times.

A lawyer was denied access to the imprisoned member of the Belarusian Christian Democracy three times on far-fetched grounds. The latest time, the lawyer was told Yauheny was in a punishment cell and didn't want to see his defender because he was in dirty clothes, the BCD press service reports.

“The ground is obviously far-fetched. The aim is to isolate the political prisoner. We know that Yauheny Vaskovich receives letters only from his family members. We can only guess what is going on,” BCD executive secretary Dzyanis Sadouski said.

“The BCD party regards these facts as an intention to apply physical and psychological pressure on Yauheny Vaskovich to make him apply for a pardon. As the example of Syarhei Kavalenka and other prisoners shows, a petition for pardon does not guarantee the release,” Dzyanis Sadouski said.

The lawyer will make another attempt to see his client and learn news from him.
