Luninets authorities prepare official for “elections”

Canvassing for parliamentary candidates is allowed only after registration stage is completed, but the authorities already started to advertise their nominees.

A charter97.org correspondent informs that head of the education department at Luninets district executive committee Valyantina Veras found herself in the focus of attention. State-run newspapers began to promote her before the propaganda election campaign was officially launched. Narodnaya Gazeta published an article praising Veras and Zarya, a newspaper in Brest region, printed the article titled “Teacher with a capital T, or Why is education system in Luninets district the best in region”.

According to the articles, every success in the education sector in the region is a merit of the above mentioned official. Even the decrease in juvenile crime is interpreted as the achievement of Valyantina Veras, on whose initiative “military and patriotic classes” were opened in two schools.

Official's rival in the election will be local businessman Vitaly Karatysh, who set himself as an independent candidate, and two party nominees having no relation to Luninets district. The BPF party proposed Alyaksandr Harasyuk, an employee of a Minsk firm. According to the data from the constituency election commission, the other potential candidate, Yury Dashkevich, was nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party and occupies the post of director general of the Thermal Processing Plant in Smolensk (Russia).
