First Deputy FM Ihar Petryshenka might be named Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia

His candidature was discussed today when Lukashenka took the decision to appoint Andrei Kabyakou head of the administration.

Alyaxandar Lukashenka noted that “Russian direction is very important to us, and here we need an ambassador who knows well both Moscow and Russia and keeps track of the current issues in the relations between Belarus and Russia.” The head of state also stressed that an eye should be kept on the developing Single Economic Space. In his words, Andrei Kabyakou was made Ambassador to Russia as he took an active part in the formation of the legal framework of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space.

“I think we can recommend Igor Petrishenko, First Deputy Foreign Minister, to this post. I believe he is the most appropriate and well-trained person who is well-aware of his tasks as he has worked at the embassy before,” Lukashenka said.

“And, secondly: he is involved in the development of the Eurasian Union which is to be formed by 2015,” he added.

He believes that the Foreign Ministry needs the relevant reshuffling. “The Belarusian Foreign Ministry should continue functioning efficiently, particularly when we have good candidates to fill the post of the deputy minister.”
