Belarusian shooter set a new world record.

The first Olympic "gold" has brought to our country Sergei Martynau. He won a gold medal in shooting from a small-caliber rifle from a prone position at a distance of 50 meters.

In the qualifying tournament he won a stunning victory, gaining 600 points. In the final round of the competition, Sergei Martynau again was stronger than their opponents: once again he improved the world record up to the sum of 705.5 points. Thus, the shooter brought a third medal of the Belarusian team at the XXX Summer Olympics held in London.

Second place went to the Belgian Lionel Lekoks with 701,2 points; bronze went to the Slovenian shooter Raymond Debevets - 701.0 points.

Earlier, Sergei Martynau twice won bronze medals in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. All in all, he has participated in six Olympics, and got into the finals on four of them. In addition to Olympic medals Sergei Martynau has two world championship titles (2006, 2010) and the gold  of the European Championship in 1997.
