Emanuelis Zingeris: Сompromise with the dictator is unacceptable

The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Lithuanian Seimas warned the authorities about repeating of the of history with the transmission of data of the accounts of Ales Bialiatski.

Emanuelis Zingeris suggested that possible requests of the Belarusian authorities to Lithuania on legal assistance in case on illegal crossing of the state border by the Swedish aircraft may be an attempt to use international agreements for repressions.

"Lithuania respects the inviolability of state borders of Belarus and performs all the signed legal agreements. However, this should not become an occasion for the dictator of the neighboring country to pursue his political opponents and members of democratic forces, as it, unfortunately, happened a year ago, when the Belarusian government used the information, provided by official institutions of Lithuania and Poland, for politically motivated prosecution of the head of the human rights organization "Viasna", - is said in the statement, reports "Radio Svaboda".

According to Zingeris, the expulsion of Swedish diplomats from Belarus and the return of the Belarusian ambassador from Sweden - is inadequate reaction of the Belarusian authorities on the events of July 4. Recent activity in Belarus such as the closure of the OSCE mission in early 2011 in Minsk, constant violations of human rights, political prisoners, and further political repressions against dissidents show that the authorities of the country further increase its international isolation.

"All these events make it clear that in dealing with such non-democratic countries as Belarus there can be no compromises in the area of democracy and human rights, and Lithuania, Sweden, and other democratic countries should fully support the democratic future of Belarus. Lithuania must once again very clearly express their opinion in the EU on this issue", - is stated in the statement of the Head of the  Foreign Affairs Committee of Lithuanian Seimas.
