Foreign citizens can vote too?

Foreign citizens permanently living in Belarus are invited to vote in the so called election.

A reader of charter97.org says all members of his family received invitations to vote in the “parliamentary election”, but his stepfather, who is not a citizen of Belarus, has only a residence permit.

It happened at the 193d polling station in Minsk (3a Chkalov Street, secondary school No. 1). The reader offers observers to pay special attention to this polling station.

We remind that foreign citizens and people without citizenship have no right to elect or be elected as well as participate in referendums. However, citizens of Russia permanently living in Belarus were given the right to vote and be elected to local government bodies. This right is guaranteed by article 58 of the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus.
