Ivashkevich: pseudo oppositionists’ participation didn’t give them anything

First time ever the majority of the people and the opposition were acting in one direction, the politician believes.

One of the opposition leaders Viktar Ivashkevich told why the boycott campaign was successful.

“The boycott happened, the elections were ignored by more than 70% of people in Minsk and more than 50% all over Belarus. This happened as a result of the opposition’s calls for the boycott and even to a larger degree because of the people’s mistrust to the authorities and all their institutions”, - the politician said.

“It is the first time when the majority of people and the opposition were acting in one same direction. The calls of the opposition fell into the soil of Belarusians’ reluctance to cooperate with the regime, that’s why it was successful”, - Viktar Ivashkevich thinks.

“The ones who participated till the end also showed that the presence of their names in the ballots didn’t influence the turnout of Belarusians to the polling stations. The pseudo oppositionists’ participation didn’t give them anything and helped them in no way”, - the politician believes.

“The boycott campaign has won. I think the part of the opposition that called for the boycott will consolidate and act further considering the public attitude. First time in 18 years the calls of the opposition and the people’s desires coincided”, - Viktar Ivashkevich emphasized.
