Belarusian authorities abrogated the agreement with Paftiev’s firm

Belarusian government abrogated the investment agreement with the BT Telecomunications enterprise which is a subject of the EU sanctions.

The Council of Ministers resolution as of September 19 2012 number 865 foresees the termination, BelTA reports.

The investment agreement was concluded in the beginning of 2011. It was supposed that the investor would create a monitoring center in the gambling business sphere in Belarus. In order to pick the company which would receive such a right a competition was held a year before.

The winner of the competition had to ensure twenty-four-hour provision of complete and reliable information about the gambling services to the state bodies interested in the information of this kind. In doing so the information about the account turnover and the win payments was supposed to become transparent for the authorities.

Today the company that won the second competition is busy with creating the monitoring center and implementation of a new computerized cashier’s system.

We would remind you that on 20 June 2011 the EU’s Council decided to extend the list of the Belarusian citizens and enterprises under the sanctions because of the human rights violations in Belarus. Vladimir Peftiev and three of his companies were included on the list – Beltehexport, Sport-pari and BT Telecommunications. In the EU’s document Peftiev goes as a “person connected to the president Lukashenka and his family, main economic advisor of the president Lukashenka and the key financial sponsor or the Lukashenka’s regime, the chairman of the shareholders' council of Beltehexport, the largest armory importing and exporting company in Belarus”.
