Author of book on Hrodna history fired twice

Andrei Chernyakevich was again dismissed from the University of Hrodna.

The official reason for his dismissal reads as “repeated violation of labour discipline”, Radio Svaboda reports. Andrei Chernyakevich and his co-workers have no doubts the real ground was his contribution to a book on the history of Hrodna.

He was dismissed from university some weeks ago, but later reinstated at work because he was in hospital at the moment of dismissal.

The university trade union branch was against the resignation of Chernyakevich for three days, but all voted to dismiss him today. The meeting of trade union members was held in his absence.

“I was told that the preliminary decision was annulled, because they didn't have a quorum. But today the trade union branch chair explained to me that a procedure was violated. The issue should have been discussed by a commission before voting. I think it is an ordinary combination to explain their decision,” Chernyakevich says.

Chernyakevich once asked another university teacher to replace him and read a lecture. This was interpreted as repeated violations of labour discipline. Chernyakevich says he did it for health reasons and warned his boss about the replacement. It is a usual practice at university to do this without written notices, Chernyakevich says.

We remind that Charnyakevich earlier reported about some people who watched his every step at university and followed him from one university building to another.
