At the cemetery in Kalodzishchy relatives and colleagues commemorated the journalist, murdered 9 years ago.
A television journalist Leanid Mindlin, who was among those attending Veranika Charkasava’s grave, said he was collecting materials for a documentary about her, the press-service of the Belarusian Association of Journalists reports.
“Reviewing the chronicles, you sometimes find interesting documentary shots and involuntary recollect. Here is the year of 1983, when she is still very young near her school. Here are late shots, when she worked on television. While there is memory about the person, she remains with us. I hope that this documentary will be out by the 10th anniversary of Veranika’s death”, - he said.
According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists’ chairwoman Zhana Licvina, the days of their colleagues’ deaths are days marked with black for the journalists community.
“There are not enough words at funerals, at funeral repasts – so many of our colleagues go, not having seen the day, when we all will sigh with relief. There are many losses, but such losses as Dzmitry Zavadski, Aleh Biabienin, Veranika Charkasava should keep everyone restless. Until we get the answers, what happened to them and who is to blame. The main thing is to remember them and still wait to get the answers”, - she said.
On the eve of the anniversary the Belarusian Association of Journalists addressed the Investigatory Committee in order to find out about the state of affairs on the investigation of Charkasava’s murder. In the department of communications with media they told to call back on Monday, when the competent employee would be present. It turned out to be impossible to reach this employee in the end.
Originally the case was investigated by Minsk’s prosecutor’s office. From the moment of the foundation of the Investigatory Committee in 2012 it was passed on to this institution. Last year representatives of the Investigatory Committee told that the investigation was still suspended, but “operational and searching measures were taken on the case aimed at establishing the people, involved in the murder, and clarifying the circumstances”.
