Marek Migalski: EU shouldn't forget about political prisoners in Belarus

The European Union should demand at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius that the Belarusian authorities release and rehabilitate the political prisoners.

The statement was made by Marek Migalski.

The Eastern Partnership summit opens in Vilnius in a month. Despite appeals of international human rights organisations and Belarusian opposition movements, it was decided to invite representatives of the Belarusian authorities to Vilnius.

Marek Migalski reminds the EU foreign ministers that the human rights situation in Belarus doesn't improve – the Belarusian regime brutally restrains its opponents, stifles human rights defenders and restricts the fundamental liberties of citizens, the website of the MEP reports.

The MEP called on European politicians to raise the question of political prisoners during conversations with the Belarusian authorities representatives and demand their immediate release and rehabilitation.
