March to Kurapaty scheduled for November 3

The Minsk city executive authorities permitted to hold a rally on Dziady, the day of commemoration of the dead.

The rally will be held on November 3. Participants are expected to gather near the watch factory at 10:30, Radio Svaboda reports.

The rally will have the traditional route: from Chelyuskintsy Park to Kurapaty memorial area along Independence Avenue, Kalinouski, Sedykh, Karbyshev, Gamarnik and Miroshnichenko streets. People will carry national white-red-white flags, candles, flowers and crosses, which will be installed at the site of mass executions of victims of Stalin's repression.

Rallies on the Dziady Day are held annually in Belarus. In 1988, it was the first anti-Soviet mass rally organised by the Belarusian Popular Front. Having learnt the awful truth about Kurapaty, people came there to pay tribute to thousands of Belarusians who were executed there during Stalin's purges. It was the first time for the decades of life as part of the Soviet Union and underground struggle for independence when Belarusians openly raised the national white-red-white flag.

This year's rally is organised by the Conservative Christian Party BPF.
