Zmitser Dashkevich: Conditions in detention centre worsened

Former political prisoner was released from the temporary detention facility in Akrestsin Street.

More than 20 Young Front members and journalists were waiting for him outside the jail. The police were watching the process, but no one was detained.

Zmitser Dashkevich said said about his three-day detention that he was surprised by worse conditions in jail, in particular by food for inmates:

“They don't feed inmates during the first day after the arrest. Other inmates have to share their food with others,” he told Radio Svaboda.

Zmitser Dashkevich was detained on November 6 as he was collecting signatures for renaming Lenin Street into Frantsyskanskaya Street. Judge Valery Yesman from Minsk's Tsentralny district court sentenced the activist to 3 days in the detention facility for alleged disobedience to the police. Dashkevich says the arrest report was falsified.
