Policeman sentenced to 6 years in jail for squeezing out testimonies

The Babruisk inter-district military court sentenced a Krychau policeman to 6 years years of jail.

According to the newspaper “Krychauskaya Zhyttsio”, on 31 October the Babruisk inter-district military court sentenced a Krychau policeman to 6 years years of jail under Part 3 of Art. 426 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power or authority ) and paragraph 9 of Part 2 of Art . 147 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of a serious bodily injury), without confiscation of property, with deprivation of the special title of "senior police sergeant", with disqualification to hold certain positions for a period of five years.

As we have already written, in December 2012 a Krychau resident was detained on suspicion of a theft at the Krychau enterprise “Kamunalnik”. The police officers used physical force to the suspect, as a result of which he was seriously injured. After the release from the police the citizen applied to the Krychau inter-district KGB Department.

The editor of the independent newspaper “Volny Horad” Siarhei Niarouny says he is surprised that only one policeman was imprisoned, as according to the received information, the beating at the Krychau District Police Department was performed by several police officers. “Now we will try to find what ruling the Babruisk Inter-district Police Department issued on the methods used at the Krychau DPD”, says Mr. Niarouny.
