Uladzimir Jaromienak: I am at large so far due to Eastern Partnership

The former political prisoner is convinced that he will be sent to prison after the summit in Vilnius.

Young Front activist Uladzimir Jaromienak’s verdict – 3-month arrest for violating preventive supervision regulations – came into force on 12 November. The activist told Radio Svaboda why he was not yet put behind bars.

“I called the inspector, and he told me to prepare for late November. He said they would send to prison then, not earlier. They will provide the exact date additionally. I link that to the Eastern Partnership summit, which is about to take place in Vilnius. The will definitely no want to raise the number of political prisoners at the moment, why else? What will I do? As usual, life goes on. I will prepare wife for another ordeal, though”, - he said.

In 2011 Uladzimir Jaromienak was sentenced to 3 years in prison for participating in the protest manifestation against the rigged presidential elections on 19 December 2010. In several months he was released under an amnesty, but he did not stop his civil activities and was repeatedly detained at the actions of solidarity with political prisoners.

Court put him under preventive supervision by police, the term of the supervision was then prolonged. In August the court of Minsk’s Piershamajski district found Uladzimir Jaromienak guilty of violating the rules of the supervision and sentenced him to a 3-month arrest. The city court acknowledged the verdict.
