Belarus’ Rabchenko defends EBU champion’s title for fourth time

The Belarusian professional boxer Sergei Rabchenko has defeated Wales’ Bradley Pryce and defended the title of the European champion awarded by the European Boxing Union (EBU).

The Belarusian has also retained the WBC Silver Belt in the light middleweight (under 69.9kg). The bout took place in Bulgaria.

From the outset of the bout Sergei Rabchenko had the upper hand over his opponent. In the third round the Belarusian knocked the Welshman down but Bradley Pryce managed to continue the bout and complete all 12 rounds. The three judges decided to award the victory to Sergei Rabchenko (120-107, 118-109, 117-110).

Sergei Rabchenko first won EBU’s title of the European champion on 16 June 2012 when he celebrated a knockout victory over the five-time champion of Great Britain and two-time champion of Europe Ryan Rhodes.

Sergei Rabchenko has held 25 bouts during his professional career and won all of them. As many as 18 bouts ended in knockouts.

The session of the 51st congress of the World Boxing Council (WBC) held in Thailand on 5 November took an official decision the top place for Sergei Rabchenko in the WBC world ranking in the light middleweight. The fighter may take part in a bout for the title of the WBC World Champion. However, it is not yet clear whether the clash will take place. Its date is unknown either.

The WBC is one of worldwide organizations which award titles to the best professional boxers. Its titles are one of the most prestigious in the world.
