Makei to attend Vilnius Summit

Foreign minister Uladzimir Makei will lead the Belarusian delegation to the Vilnius Summit.

The information was spread by the MFA press service.

“The Belarusian delegation to the Vilnius Summit will be led by foreign minister of Belarus Ulradzimir Makei who will represent Belarus's stance and approaches to the Eastern Partnership initiative and its development prospects during a plenary discussion on November 29, 2013,” the press release says.

Bilateral meetings between the Belarusian delegation head and representatives of the EU countries and members states as well as leaders of European institutions are planned during the summit.

The second Eastern Partnership Business Forum, which was initiated by Belarus, will be held ahead of the Summit. Minister of economy Mikalai Snapkou is expected to represent Belarus at the Forum.

The EaP Summit is due to be held in Vilnius (Lithuania) on November 28-29. Lithuania's deputy foreign minister Andrius Krivas handed invitations to the third EaP summit to the heads of diplomatic missions of the EaP member states on October 15. The invitation for Belarus didn't contain names of officials.

Many European and American politicians said earlier that representatives of the Lukashenka regime shouldn't be invited to the summit.
