Lukashenka takes revenge on Kanaplou for business schemes?

The current problems of Lukashenka's childhood friend are explained by his activity as the chairman of the “house of representatives”.

Political observer Raman Yakauleuski spoke to charter97.org about the detention of former and current vice presidents of the National Olympic Committee Aliakseyenka and Kanaplou.

“The information about Lukashenka's closest fellow Uladzimir Kanaplou, or 'childhood friend' as Lukashenka calls him, is not clear. Detention and arrest are different things. The KGB doesn't comment on the incident, which gives us grounds to suppose that we have to wait for more clear information. The Investigation Committee says it didn't open a criminal case, but no one denies the information about the detention or the arrest of Kanaplou. It means that the old interdepartamental wars have resumed. In diplomatic language, the phrase 'no comments' means that the information is true. We will soon hear about a new scandal in the governmental bodies. The information about Aliakseyenka shows how the country prepares for the Ice Hockey World Championship,” Raman Yakauleuski thinks.

The political observer noted that Kanaplou had earlier lost the post of the chairman of the “house of representatives”. Kanaplou said about the incident that Lukashenka had brought him down a peg.

“There were rumours that it was caused by Kanaplou's business activity. We don't know it exactly, but his wife was reported by the media to have resigned from the Ministry of Education immediately. His son was recalled from a Belarusian representation office in Shanghai,” Yakauleuski said.

The observer says that absence of comments from the KGB meant that they will be made later and adds it's obvious that some interesting processes are taking place in governmental bodies.

“I don't rule out the possibility that he pays for his old sins, when he lost his post. Maybe some new facts were revealed today. It is likely to be so. I don't think his problems have relation to his current activities,” Raman Yakauleuski supposes.

We remind that the KGB carried out an inquiry into the case of Henadz Aliakseyenka, a member of the organising committee for the Ice Hockey World Championship, and Uladizmir Kanaplou, the head of the national handball federation. Both were detained three days ago. Kanaplou was released today. There's no information about Aliakseyenka.
