Natallia Pinchuk: I don't believe Lukashenka's statements

The normalisation of the relationship between the EU and the Belarusian regime is possible only if the political prisoners are released and rehabilitated.

Natallia Pinchuk, the wife of political prisoner Ales Bialiatski, spoke to charter97.org about Lukashenka's statement about his readiness to normalise the relations with the EU.

“I personally don't believe Lukashenka's statements and intentions. The political prisoners are still behind bars. Secondly, if he really has this will, only actual steps can show if he really has these intentions or it is just a desire to start a dialogue to solve his own problems,” she said.

The political prisoner's wife thinks lifting sanctions from Uladzimir Makei was a mistake.

“I think the West's policy towards the Belarusian regime should be principled. The EU and the US should insist on the release and rehabilitation of the political prisoners, one of the most important conditions. Any contacts with the Belarusian authorities are possible only if the Belarusian authorities fulfill it,” Natallia Pinchuk is convinced.

We remind that the Belarusian dictators said as he received credentials from ambassadors of foreign states, including European ones, that Belarus was ready “for any steps to normalise the relations with the EU”.
