Siarhei Mikhalok's address to readers of charter97.org (Video)

The leader of Lyapis Trubetskoy band addressed the readers of our website before the concert.

The concert to promote the new album Hrai in the Belarusian language was held at Lithuania's biggest venue, Siemens Arena. About 11,000 people came to the event.

Siarhei Mikhalok met with the editor and the director of charter97.org, Natallia Radzina and Fiodar Pauliuchenka. The leader of Lyapis Trubetskoy received the National Human Rights Award “For Personal Courage” from the website charter97.org.

Siarhei Mikhalok addressed the readers of our website:

“I think it's a trend now to say that a musician's performance was a bomb. It's a military word. I believe it's time for musicians to unite and consolidate people. Society is on the verge of a split. People are arguing unable to decide where to move – to the left or to the right. But the question is whether we should move forward or backward. We support those Belarusians who want to move forward, who want to see Belarus a European country. We are not outcasts, 'lousy intellectuals', the fifth column or the CIA agents. Look at me. Do you think serious special agents can deal with such a man as I am? I would be happy to get acquainted with them. In the film The Avengers, there was the organisation SHIELD. There was a man who solved all problems. I'd like to get acquainted with such a person. I would have a drink with him and explain how to establish peace and order.

Our concerts unite people. The split is so deep that it's impossible to travel in the same carriage with some people. We don't have a border or a water divide like in Ukraine. We don't play in garages or play house concerts. Rock 'n' roll is a culture for a large number of people. It is for stadiums, arenas, football fields and city squares.

Long live Belarus!”

Lyapis Trubetskoy is forbidden in Belarus. The band's leader, Siarhei Mikhalok, couldn't return home for a long time due to his criticism of the authorities. He took a decision to come to Minsk in November to his new-born son.
